Technology for a mature generation

I am no expert but I have found so many people my age and older that struggle with their tablets phones and computers that I try my best to help them learn how to deal with these monsters that seem to be fighting them every step of the way.
Have you purchased a new smartphone and realized you have no clue how to use? Do computers leave you frustrated and unable to find the things that you need? Have you struggled with finding pictures that your grandchildren have sent you via messenger?
It seems that you have to apply for everything when it comes to old age online. Whether it's Social Security or Medicare you have to go on to a computer to the web and register there, talking to an actual person seems to be disappearing. That just doesn't seem fair to the generation that didn't want or need computers in their lives.
I hope through my attempts to bring you to a mutual understanding of your technology that you find you do need a computer in your life and that it will give you a full understanding and knowledge of things that you love and want to do.
Doesn't it just aggravate you to rely on your grandchildren to do things with the computers and phones for you? Do you know why it is that you can hand the tablet or a phone and four-year-old and within 10 min. their operating it like it's something that was handed to them at the delivery room in the hospital. Most people tell me it's because they grew up with it and respectfully I beg your pardon but I disagree it's not that a four-year-old grew up with it because they haven't grown up with anything yet. The one thing that they have not and that we have that hinders our ability to learn new things is fear. No matter what your fear is it can stifle you and keep you from learning things like how to snap, tweet and post things so that you can communicate in today's society. You may have a fear of failing or you may just have a fear of breaking something. Those fears are justified we have learned over the years to be fearful and afraid of things that we don't understand. We have learned the value of a dollar and breaking something that's is as expensive as a computer is a legitimate fear. I understand I have it too, all adults have it as well.

It is the innocence and fear free nature of the child to dive in head first and learn even from mistakes that they make they learn what not to do to get the result that they want. Sometimes you just have to throw caution to the wind and dive in head first and enjoy what happens.
It is frustrating to try to do something over and over again and it not work. The thing that you have to realize is that this is not something that you can't do. Believe me, if you've made it this far in life you have the ability to do it.
Once in an interview, Thomas Edison was asked you tried the thousand and one ways to make the lightbulb, so after failing 1001 times why haven't you given up. He replied to the interviewer I haven't failed I have found a thousand and one ways not to make a lightbulb, all I have to find is the one way to make a lightbulb. Walt Disney and other amazing minds of our time have always said that a good failure at a young age teaches more than succeeding ever will.

So don't get frustrated when you fail and even if you fail more than once just don't do it the same way twice. I could just show you how to do everything but that doesn't teach you anything. The best way for me to explain to you how to use a computer is to show you the basic steps one by one.
That is going to be my next topic Computing basics and maybe even a few more topics because the basics can get rather long and that's what you really need to know. I will try to use basic language and not all of the technobabble that you hear from the so-called experts use. It's not that I know more than anyone else because I don't but the one thing I do know is how much pleasure I find in my computer almost daily. I love old radio shows like Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, Jack Benny, the Lone Ranger, Boston Blackie and many many more old radio shows that I can download for free and play in my car on my way to work. Maybe old radio shows aren't your thing maybe you enjoy quilting or needlepoint, with your computer you can get in touch with like-minded people and find patterns and other things that you thought were impossible. No matter what your interests are you can find more enjoyment through your computer than you ever dreamed possible just sitting at home watching television. Speaking of television there are old specials and programs and movies available through the Internet and your computer at any other period in our life. So if you are interested in me continuing this please comment and let me know I will be more than happy to teach you what I know and maybe even a few of you can teach me something that I don't know. One of the joys of my life has always been helping people and learning more about the world I live in. Thanks, everyone I hope you're interested and if you're not let me know that too thanks.
